Drop intro
In our globalized urban life, we have adopted all the exotic food cultures, fascinating traditions and sounding names. This was the way how Italian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Thailand, French, and many other food customs have become a considerable part of daily food all over the world. These days the restaurants, cookbooks, food blogs and videos are all about adopted versions of Italian pasta, Indian curry and Japanese sushi.
You may wonder: “What is wrong? It sounds great to taste exotic dishes and explore the culinary around the world just eating from a plate”.
And yes and no.
Grabbing the tops without looking for the roots
The thing is that before XXI century, food cultures in different countries and regions formed mostly independently. It took long time for the people of a given culture to set the rules and “tips and tricks” in a kitchen to achieve the best results. More so, as all the science was right there, in the same kitchen and daily life of families – people knew about plant food more than the most knowledgeable internet readers these days.
Here below I would show you how 3 well-known natural plant substances may contribute for women infertility within the decades.
Three common plants which may contribute to infertility in women
Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Benefits of ginger in general

Nowadays ginger is everywhere: hot tea with honey and ginger, sautéing with ginger, seasoning with ginger, baking with ginger powder, chewing fresh ginger for good breath.
Ginger is known to improve digestion, relieves nausea and pains, eases cold and flu, cleans blood and reduces inflammation, reduces risk of diabetes, supports cardiovascular health and lowers cancer risk (1). Sounds like a great pill form all the ailments, isn’t it?
Benefits of ginger for sexual life
In one of the books of Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1910-1997), a French naval officer and explorer, ginger was mentioned too. Around 15-16th centuries, Portuguese colonizers used to give ginger to their slaves for them to have more children (that meant for the colonizers to have more slaves later).
Ginger is known to increase libido (whole root, plant-based oil) (2) and reduces menstrual crumps.
Ginger stimulates testosterone production in men (3)
Unknown properties of ginger
- Wild ginger is contraindicated with endometriosis (a disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that forms the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterine cavity)
- Stimulates menstrual flow (mild emmenagogue)
- In higher doses may work as an abortifacient (concentrated ginger tea or ginger paste with/without honey)
By stimulating menstrual flow and activity, ginger cleanses woman’s whole blood during menstruation period, cleanses and prepares uterus for getting pregnant (first 3-5-7 days of menstrual cycle)
Emmenagogues are herbs which stimulate blood flow in the pelvic area and uterus; some stimulate menstrual flow.
Just think what effects ginger could bring to a healthy woman if consuming ginger daily for months/years?
(Un)known / hidden foods with ginger
- Curry spices
- Curry is a mixture of spices (not spice itself). Curry powder usually consists of turmeric, chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, ground ginger and pepper
- Salt substitutes
- Many spice-based salt substitutes consist ground ginger, because in general the goal of spice-based substitutes of salt is just to add various tastes to tongue receptors
- Various seasoning mixtures
- Ginger tea with honey
- It is widely popular during all autumn, winter and spring time (to boost immunity)

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is the main and widely used ingredient of fruit tea. Any time you choose or order fruit tea (the standard version would be always deep red-violet color) – hibiscus is there. It also gives a bit sour taste in a mouth after drinking a tea.
Benefits of hibiscus for sexual life
- Increases libido
- Helps men with premature ejaculation, affects the generation of sperm (2)
Unknown properties of hibiscus
- For women it is believed to cause infertility by ayurvedic medicine. It works by inhibition of implantation (2)
(Un)known / hidden foods with hibiscus
- any drink/beverage which has a red color
- hibiscus sugar
- hibiscus sangria
- vegan hibiscus tacos
- some desserts and cakes which are naturally colored in red
- cranberry hibiscus granola
General note: if the food product has rich, deep red-violet color – check the ingredients, hibiscus might be there
Parsley (Petroselinum sativum)

Benefits of parsley for sexual life
I cannot remember now the name of the book (to tell you the true source of literature) where I read the following: “Cleopatra gave to Alexander the Great a drink with parsley to arouse his love passion” (no literature source:))
Unknown properties of parsley
- Works as mild and medium strength emmenagogue
- May work as abortifacient by stimulating oxytocin release (uterine contracting herb) (2)
Verdict for ginger, hibiscus and parsley
If looking for conceiving, these three plants should be consumed as follows:
- FOR MEN:
- any time, any food type (see Benefits in general and Benefits for sexual life)
- FOR WOMEN:
- Only during 1-7th days of menstrual cycle to cleanse the blood. If taking ginger in the first 1-7 days of menstrual cycle actually may boost fertility because the uterus will be prepared and clean. Consuming it after 7th day of menstrual cycle may work as abortifacient.
- Hibiscus as a source of vitamin C and just in food, or for other health benefits may be consumed during 1-7th days of the menstrual cycle, but surely not after or during ovulation (starting approximately from 14th day of a menstrual cycle). What about 8-13th days period? Just to keep it safe, better to abstain form it in this period. It may be consumed, but in fact not necessary at all
- Parsley: the same as hibiscus
