What is about illiteracy in XXI century? / Prophylactic self-isolation series. Day 221st.

Just some thoughts, no offense towards anybody, this is written for humor:)

In XXI century, we generally are educated, and as a fact are able to read. Of course! The question is “What we are reading?” and, if reading “Do we understand what is written?”

It seems that illiteracy comes to its next level where anyone could prove he/she can recognize the letters, pronounce them and therefore, can read. However, the path for “what could be understood” is quite narrow.

It seems that in XXI century illiteracy comes to its next level where we can prove that we can read, but we can not admit we understand the meaning

When it comes to understanding of what is written on labels of cosmetics, labels of food, list of additives in drugs, labels of clothing ingredients, household products – we can prove we can pronounce those names (hardly), thus – we may prove we can read!

But where is understanding of the meaning? As a result, we ignore and underestimate the importance TO KNOW and TO PERCEIVE .

Nowadays, open-access scientific articles are gaining their weight, however, wide range of society still do not read them, because… BECAUSE it is difficult to read!…

The nature of an urban human is constructed in a way that we are ready to take what is given for free. Prove it!

Lots of open access articles are given for a wide range of audience, but we still continue to read nonsenses on yellow pages where the initial information is chewed and moistened for us – we only need to swallow. Swallow and regurgitate.

Chew the information by yourself, give it a try, take the power!

OK, you are not created for reading articles, OK.

Take your shampoo and discover the ingredients. Let’s say, each of the ingredients is a letter in a scientific language. Learn ONE LETTER in a month! Learn what does the particular ingredient mean, even from Wikipedia, but go deeper, take a challenge to perceive what is in a world around you!

  1. Good morning Alisa. Yes! That is important! To read and not to ignore the ingredients. To be responsible for what I buy and use. I am responsible too, not only the industry which offers theirs product!!!
