A week without SUGAR / Prophylactic self-isolation series. Day 186th.

I am sweet enough!

A week without sugar

A week ago I wrote a post about my unexpected discovery – my addiction to sugar Am I addicted to sugar – Yes.

A week ago I started a new well-being project – a life without sugar. I joined Dr. Vera Tarman’s challenge program “I am sweet enough!” and here are my week notes:

day Emotional feeling just after opening eyes in the morningDominant physical feeling during the day
1stjust OK energetic
2ndconcerned headache
3rdapathy foggy brain
4thcalmness headache
5thpeace lazy
6thno dizzy thoughts in a head – still mind in the mood for sport
7thpeace energetic

Days 2nd, 3rd and 4th without sugar and cakes were dizzy

On those days I was cramped by headaches and foggy brain. Sugar withdrawal made me apathetic. I learned that sugar is a stimulant (as well as coffee or cigarettes), but in fact acts as a hidden and insidious infiltrate.

Here what I learned about sugar withdrawal (external link):

Low-carb and keto side effects & how to cure them by Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt on dietdoctor.com

The most common side effect on low carbohydrates (sugars) is what most people experience during the first week, often on day 2-4 (and that was my case too, a classic example!)

I have a brain frog, – I told to a friend of mine. No, no, brain fog!, – hurried to correct myself 🙂

and we were laughing together about those frogs:)

Headaches can occur during this transition, as can feeling tired, lack of motivation, nausea and lethargy. It’s also possible to experience confusion or “brain fog.”

try adding half a teaspoon of salt to a large glass of water. Drink it. This may reduce or eliminate side effects (headache caused by sugar withdrawal) within 15-30 minutes

<< I wish to know this info before! I learned it only on my 5th day of sugar withdrawal, when headache passed away by itself >>

The good news is that these symptoms often disappear spontaneously within a few days. These symptoms can be avoided altogether by consuming adequate water, salt, and fat on day one. The main cause is usually dehydration and/or salt deficiency, caused by a temporarily increased urine production (1).

I am ADDICTED to sugar

Well, I never thought before that I am ADDICTED to sugar until I started to read Dr. Vera Tarman’s book “Food Junkies”. Now I claim that I am. And I am going out of there.

What products have I excluded

So I excluded sauces, sweet cream, cakes, honey, maple/agave syrups and pizzas (it goes with sugary sauces usually, and I’m not in Italy where pizza is tasty enough to eat it without sauces, yep, it is delicious only there!:)).

What products were already not in my list for years

I need to say, I already do not eat plain sugar for many years (no sugar in my tea), I do not drink sodas and packed juices for many years, I do not eat frozen or other semi-finished food for a few years, but all other sugar-packed products…they are always persecuting me.

I feed my physical body with LIFE FOOD for 1.5 years: 60% raw vegan, sometimes vegetarian dishes. No meet, fish, and almost no wheat flour in my ration

I am not going on keto diet

I need to say that I am not going on keto diet. During the week I ate whole fruits and berries in season, some dry fruits, a raw vegan cake with dry fruits, complex carbohydrates (like my baked rye bread, which is baked without sugar, without yeast and from whole grains, – not from whole grain flour!), also nuts, beans (my-made hummus).

Raw vegan cake without sugar (dates, raisins and mulberry are added for sweetness)

But yes, most of my day ratio consists of vegetable juice in the morning and a big bowl of a vegetable salad in the evening (at 3-4 pm). I also eat dairy butter and feta cheese.

How I feel after a week without sugar?

I like how I feel now. Those cakes in coffee houses made me sick and miserable, I was bending in front of those refrigerators while choosing “my piece of cake”. Now I am strait and self-pleased. I do not bow in half anymore. I started to feel an honor for myself.

Choosing a piece of cake from a refrigerator

I am no longer bending in front of those refrigerators while choosing “my piece of cake” anymore!

What about this week? Let’s continue!

  • Minimize and monitor the amount of dry fruits
  • Monitor the amount of fresh fruits
  • Monitor the amount of complex carbohydrates

The world is great when you feel great!

It is never too late!
